1965
Edris Oil Service was started in 1965, when Warren R. Edris purchased Gotwalt Oil. The company consisted of two old tank wagon delivery trucks. The company was based at the Sinclair Terminal, also known as the Five Mile House, positioned at the intersection of Spring Grove Road and Rt. 30.
In those days the company was a commission agent for Sinclair. This involved delivering home heating oil to Sinclair customers who were then billed by Sinclair, and Edris Oil was paid a 2-cent commission on each gallon sold. On this 2-cent commission, the vehicles needed to be maintained, insurance purchased and drivers paid. The company was also responsible for the collection of bad debts
Sinclair was later bought out by British Petroleum (BP), and Edris Oil was required to become a distributor. This required taking over the customer base and no longer being a commissioned agent. The customers were now Edris Oil Service customers, and pricing and billing were now the company's responsibility.
1974
In 1974, we moved from the Five Mile House to a location in Thomasville, PA with a garage with gasoline pumps. The interior was converted to office space and the bays were used as storage for motor oil and miscellaneous items. A new business was started on the property using the existing gasoline tanks to start a gas-only service station.
1975
The company was incorporated in 1975, and around this time, a new island was constructed, and tank installed to sell on-road diesel fuel. It was one of the few on-road diesel pumps in the area.
The company grew by word-of-mouth. Great customer service, along with competitive pricing, spurred growth for the next 10 years. In 1986, Warren turned to his son,
Steve, to join the company and help move it forward into the future. Steve pushed the company into the computer age and found that the key lock system was not satisfying the needs of their customers.
1991
In 1991, Edris Oil Service joined the
Pacific Pride fueling network. This gave companies more sites with which to fuel, and better management reports for companies to control costs. The advantages of
Pacific Pride created the need for more sites.
1993
In 1993, Edris built another site at 1202 Camp Betty Washington Road, just off exit 18 of I-83. Edris Oil Service continued to expand by adding a site at 3195 W. Market Street, also known as Pottery Hill, just east of the Rt. 30 bypass. The network was added to once again with the site at 445 Moulstown Road in Hanover. These sites were built near major routes to provide the greatest convenience for anyone traveling in York County. The network of our Pacific Pride hubs cover Pennsylvania and the United States, allowing customers to buy fuel anywhere and receive only one bill.
Pacific Pride was not the only thing to grow. Delivery trucks were upgraded and refurbished to maintain timely delivery. Transports were added to bring in large quantities of fuel to our bulk plant and to other bulk customers. This was done to ensure that supply and delivery will never be an issue.
Steve purchased the company from Warren in 1992, but Warren still enjoys coming in to converse with employees and customers alike. The company can also attribute its steady growth to the many people who have and still work for Edris Oil Service. Many of the names and faces have been dedicated mainstays since the 1980's.
Our motto, " We Care " is evident throughout our history and will continue to shine through to the future.
